Has anyone seen Fruit Basket?

I just watched the first episode and i thought it was going to be another girly anime show, but it was SO SAD!!! She lives in a tent alone, she lost her parents, she acts cheerful at school, but deep inside she%26#039;s lonely...This is a very sad story! This made me cry! I am not a fan of girly anime shows, but this maybe the first i will like!

i%26#039;ve watched it a few years back and the comic is better actually.


she%26#039;s living in a tent because her gramp%26#039;s house is under renovation. she was living with her grandpa then. but because of the renovation, her grandpa moved over to her uncle%26#039;s house and tohru didnt wanna move in as well so she lied to her grandpa about being able to handle it and in the end she went to live in a tent.


and about why everyone will turn into animals, it%26#039;s a curse on the souma family. the worse is kyou, not just because he%26#039;s a cat and a cat doesnt belong to the zodiac animals. you%26#039;ll know when you watch till the end.
Reply:I%26#039;ve watched the entire Fruits Basket anime and it doesn%26#039;t focus on Tohru (the girl in the tent) as much as a really girly anime would. I tends to focus on the other characters backgrounds and how Tohru attempts to help them. They turn into animals because of a curse of the zodiac. Later on the other members of the zodiac appear (all turning into animals with a hug) and a deeper relationship between them all is revealed.


All in all its a pretty good anime, but the end leaves many confusions and leads you to eventually read the manga.

the manga is MUCH better (the anime is good too ^^). well, actually, if you watch the anime first you will be forced (yes, forced. ^^) to read the manga since it cuts off... and doesnt have a real conclusion.





and everyone turns into an anime because they are cursed with the vengeful spirits of the zodiac. whichever zodiac animal spirit they are cursed with is the animal they become, and they are transform under 2 conditions:


1- they are hugged by a member of the opposite sex


2- their bodies are under alot of stress (embarassment, sickness, pain, etc....)





my opinion is to read the manga first.... because when you finish the anime you would just want to continue instead of reading it from vol 1 (most ppl do this) so yeah....


(if this happens the best place to start at is vol 6 chapter 51 ^^ ive tested this myself and this is the best place to read from when you finish the anime ^^)

P.S. i cried at the end of the anime.... never read the last manga. but my friend tells me she marries ___!!

The reason they turn into animals is because the members of the Sohma family are under the zodiac curse. The curse makes it so that when they are hugged or are under a lot of stress they transform.

I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s THAT sad. I mean, I%26#039;ve seen worse. The ending of Fruits Basket is far sadder than the beginning.

Fruits Basket follows the life of the student Tohru Honda, who was recently orphaned when her mother, Kyoko Honda, died in a car accident. After that, Tohru lived with her grandfather, but when remodeling is needed on the house, Tohru resorts to living in a tent and holds down a job to support herself. Despite suffering many hardships, Tohru remains optimistic.





One day, Tohru comes upon a house in the forest that she is temporarily living in which is the home of Shigure Sohma and fellow classmate Yuki Sohma, of the Sohma family. When the Sohmas discover that Tohru is living in a tent, they are quite surprised by her inner strength. The entire area is Sohma property, and Tohru pleads to live upon the property in her quaint tent (affectionately dubbed %26quot;her castle%26quot;). Feeling sorry for her, and desperate to end their days of filthy living conditions, the Sohmas offer her their spare room in exchange for cooking and housework. When her tent is buried that night in a landslide, burying her mother%26#039;s picture and school clothes, she has no option but to accept. Soon after she moves in, Kyo Sohma comes to challenge Yuki.





Tohru soon discovers the Sohma family%26#039;s secret, and the reason why Yuki is so private and secretive at school: thirteen members of the family are possessed by the 12 animal spirits of the Chinese Zodiac (%26quot;Jyūnishi%26quot; in Japanese) and the spirit of the cat who was left out of the Zodiac according to legend. They transform into animals when hugged by the opposite gender, when they are under a great amount of stress, or weak in any way (such as being sick). When she promises to keep their secret, the Sohmas allow Tohru to keep her memories rather than hypnotically erasing them, a fate that had previously befallen anyone not on the %26quot;Inside%26quot; of the Sohma family who had discovered the secret.





The story follows the lives of Tohru and the Sohma family, as they deal with each other and a society where neither quite fits in, as well as the feared Akito Sohma, head of the Sohma family. Soon, after living with the Sohma family she began to like, then love all of the Soh

Reply:i%26#039;ve seen the entire anime series and i even read the manga to finish off the series......it%26#039;s amazingggggg... it definately is NOT a girly anime/manga it%26#039;s rele good and btw it doesn not focus just on tohru, the girl in the tent, it%26#039;s also bout the guys she meets the curse how they try 2 break it etc it%26#039;s sooooooo gd i would definately recomend it, it was 1 of the first i watched/read....it got me interested on anime and manga
