Ayame is a guy. He also happens to be Yuki%26#039;s older brother. If you read the manga, you%26#039;ll discover that Hatori, Shigure, and Ayame have been close friends since ... well, forever. Ayame is a designer and owns a costume shop. He designs things %26quot;that make his customers%26#039; fantasies come to life%26quot; as he would put it. He also like to wear clothes that make people think he%26#039;s royalty or something. I wouldn%26#039;t exactly say that he %26quot;sleeps with guys%26quot; like he%26#039;s gay or something. It just that when he transforms, he transforms into a snake and since snake are cold-blooded he trys to find a warm body whether it%26#039;s male or female. He says he loves Hatori because well ... he%26#039;s Ayame. He and Shigure have this little %26quot;act%26quot; that they like to do that suggest that Ayame, Shigure, and Hatori were lovers, but I doubt that. They%26#039;re just really close. For Ayame to say that he loves someone means that he really cares a lot about them. Also if you%26#039;re refering to the time when Kyo or Yuki woke up and found Ayame in bed with them that was to piss Kyo off and to show Yuki how much his big brother loves him. Ayame tends to over do it when it comes to showing love or affection especially towards Yuki because in the past when Yuki needed him the most, Ayame rejected him and acted like he didn%26#039;t exist. It was a very sad and painful experience for Yuki and Ayame has come around now and feels guilty about what he did. Okay ... kind of long but I hope it helps. Reply:they never kiss in the anime because it only goes up to volume 6..but in the manga they kiss in chapter 123 but tohru is almost dead so she doesn%26#039;t remember it but they kiss again in chaper 129 when they confess to eachother when she gets out of the hospital...you can download these chapters at stoptazmo.com...and if you really are a fruits basket fan then i suggest you read the entire manga becuase the anime is horrible and the screw up a lot of things that are very important in the manga..which is the original story..

I just watched the first episode and i thought it was going to be another girly anime show, but it was SO SAD!!! She lives in a tent alone, she lost her parents, she acts cheerful at school, but deep inside she%26#039;s lonely...This is a very sad story! This made me cry! I am not a fan of girly anime shows, but this maybe the first i will like!

she%26#039;s living in a tent because her gramp%26#039;s house is under renovation. she was living with her grandpa then. but because of the renovation, her grandpa moved over to her uncle%26#039;s house and tohru didnt wanna move in as well so she lied to her grandpa about being able to handle it and in the end she went to live in a tent.
and about why everyone will turn into animals, it%26#039;s a curse on the souma family. the worse is kyou, not just because he%26#039;s a cat and a cat doesnt belong to the zodiac animals. you%26#039;ll know when you watch till the end.

I tends to focus on the other characters backgrounds and how Tohru attempts to help them. They turn into animals because of a curse of the zodiac. Later on the other members of the zodiac appear (all turning into animals with a hug) and a deeper relationship between them all is revealed.
All in all its a pretty good anime, but the end leaves many confusions and leads you to eventually read the manga.

2- their bodies are under alot of stress (embarassment, sickness, pain, etc....)
my opinion is to read the manga first.... because when you finish the anime you would just want to continue instead of reading it from vol 1 (most ppl do this) so yeah....
(if this happens the best place to start at is vol 6 chapter 51 ^^ ive tested this myself and this is the best place to read from when you finish the anime ^^)

The reason they turn into animals is because the members of the Sohma family are under the zodiac curse. The curse makes it so that when they are hugged or are under a lot of stress they transform.

I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s THAT sad. I mean, I%26#039;ve seen worse. The ending of Fruits Basket is far sadder than the beginning.

Reply:ei there.. Fruits Basket is definitely a must-see for every anime lover.. its one of my favorites because aside from the super cuteness, it actually has sense and yes.. it also made me cry till the end.. anyway, i hope you finish this anime, its really worth watching..^_^
Fruits Basket follows the life of the student Tohru Honda, who was recently orphaned when her mother, Kyoko Honda, died in a car accident. After that, Tohru lived with her grandfather, but when remodeling is needed on the house, Tohru resorts to living in a tent and holds down a job to support herself. Despite suffering many hardships, Tohru remains optimistic.
One day, Tohru comes upon a house in the forest that she is temporarily living in which is the home of Shigure Sohma and fellow classmate Yuki Sohma, of the Sohma family. When the Sohmas discover that Tohru is living in a tent, they are quite surprised by her inner strength. The entire area is Sohma property, and Tohru pleads to live upon the property in her quaint tent (affectionately dubbed %26quot;her castle%26quot;). Feeling sorry for her, and desperate to end their days of filthy living conditions, the Sohmas offer her their spare room in exchange for cooking and housework. When her tent is buried that night in a landslide, burying her mother%26#039;s picture and school clothes, she has no option but to accept. Soon after she moves in, Kyo Sohma comes to challenge Yuki.
Tohru soon discovers the Sohma family%26#039;s secret, and the reason why Yuki is so private and secretive at school: thirteen members of the family are possessed by the 12 animal spirits of the Chinese Zodiac (%26quot;Jyūnishi%26quot; in Japanese) and the spirit of the cat who was left out of the Zodiac according to legend. They transform into animals when hugged by the opposite gender, when they are under a great amount of stress, or weak in any way (such as being sick). When she promises to keep their secret, the Sohmas allow Tohru to keep her memories rather than hypnotically erasing them, a fate that had previously befallen anyone not on the %26quot;Inside%26quot; of the Sohma family who had discovered the secret.
The story follows the lives of Tohru and the Sohma family, as they deal with each other and a society where neither quite fits in, as well as the feared Akito Sohma, head of the Sohma family. Soon, after living with the Sohma family she began to like, then love all of the Soh

Reply:i%26#039;ve seen the entire anime series and i even read the manga to finish off the series......it%26#039;s amazingggggg... it definately is NOT a girly anime/manga it%26#039;s rele good and btw it doesn not focus just on tohru, the girl in the tent, it%26#039;s also bout the guys she meets the curse how they try 2 break it etc it%26#039;s sooooooo gd i would definately recomend it, it was 1 of the first i watched/read....it got me interested on anime and manga
